The first customers are signed up for fiber services in Martin. A sales representative has been knocking on doors on the north side of town, where fiber is ready for installation to the homes. The first customers should be connected sometime this week.
Work is now beginning in zone 2, which is on the west side of town near University Street and the city limits. WK&T crews will install about 15 miles of underground pipe and pull the fiber optic cable.
WK&T’s new office in Martin also is staffed with a customer service representative. The office opened last week at 207 S. Lindell St. as part of the Fiber for Martin project. The opening marked the connection of fiber in Martin to the rest of WK&T’s network.
At the office, customers can sign up for fiber internet, find out about new services, pay bills or receive technical support.
WK&T Telecommunications has a collaborative project with the city of Martin to build a cutting-edge fiber optic network within the city limits during the next 12 to 18 months. The project ties the city of Martin to WK&T’s existing network in Fulton.
