WK&T crews have begun Phase 1 of bringing a cutting-edge fiber optic network to Martin. In this important first step, WK&T is installing 12 miles of fiber along Highway 45 that will connect Martin with the cooperative’s existing network in Fulton.
In the next 12 to 18 months, WK&T will install approximately 150 miles of fiber optic line throughout the city of Martin. This new network will give the municipal water department the ability read water meters remotely. The meter-reading network would give the city an unprecedented ability to control future costs and increase efficiencies.
As the fiber is installed for the water meter monitoring system, WK&T will be expanding the network to provide high-bandwidth internet access to local residents and businesses. This will fill the area’s need for world-class communications infrastructure.
